Question: Peter, we continue today with our conversation on the seven monasteries devoted to the Archangel Saint Michael.  What insight can you share with us about the sixth stop, "Monastery of the Taxiarchis Michael of Panormitis" on the Greek island of Symi (near Rhodes)?

"This monastery is famous for a mysterious large 'wall-sized' icon (over 6') of the Archangel Saint Michael which miraculously appeared and when removed, suddenly reappeared again.  The remote monastery is located within a small seafront Greek village, 'Panormitis,' with the church (earliest remains) dating to 450 AD (erected over a former temple to Apollo). The ancient monastic Greek Orthodox 'living ancient art' is truly spectacular (see below)."

"The monastery has a magnificent curated collection of Greek Orthodox icons and religious art.  A spiritual wealth of insight to its church history and local culture with Archangel Saint Michael as their patron saint of protection."

Question: Peter, we continue today with our conversation on the seven monasteries devoted to the Archangel Saint Michael.  What insight can you share with us about the fifth stop, "Sanctuary of Monte Sant' Angelo sul Gargano" in the Foggia province of Italy?

"The most interesting insight about this monastery stop, it resides in a cave where apparitions of Archangel Saint Michael appeared in 490 to the Bishop of Sipontum.   During this first appearance (in Western Europe) of Archangel Saint Michael, he promised protection against the Neopolitan pagans if a sanctuary was built utilizing the cave."

"On the eve of a battle against the invaders, Archangel Saint Michael appeared on the mountain (Mount Gargano) with a flaming sword and protection was given against the Greek pagans. "

"Pope Gelasius (reigned 492 - 496) declared a Basilica to be built enclosing the cave space. Over the centuries, it became a monumental pilgrimage destination and in 2011 became an official UNESCO World Heritage Site."

Question: Peter, we continue today with our conversation on the seven monasteries devoted to the Archangel Saint Michael.  What insight can you share with us about the fourth stop, "Sacra di San Michele" in the Piedmont area of Italy?

"As you can see above, the ancient monastery, 'Sacra di San Michele' is reminiscent of a scene from 'Lord of the Rings,' an ethereal, enigmatic towering sacred citadel.  Not only for J.R.R. Tolkien fans, but for Umberto Eco aficionados, (author of 'The Name of the Rose),' reportedly based the setting of his novel's monastery after a visit to "Sacra di San Michele.'"

Question: Peter, is it true the pinnacle of 'Sacra di San Michele," is a miracle by its nature according to legend?

"Similar to other famous edifices motivated by divinely inspired visions, Saint John Vincent whose devotion to Archangel Saint Michael, urged him to build on the mountain.  Miraculously, even the building materials he collected were somehow mystically transported to the top of Mount Pirchiriano.  The edifice monumentally expanded under the Benedictine Order for hundreds of years."

Question: What other 'secrets' does the "Sacra di San Michele" hold?

"The secrets are hidden eternally within its sacred walls.  However, there are beautiful treasures to behold.  There was a notable scriptorium which produced magnificent rare sacred manuscripts.  One of the most famous, was created in 1315, 'The Breviary of San Michele della Chiusa.'
