Actresses As Blessed Mother Mary Since 2001 - Vanessa Benavente THE CHOSEN - Noa Cohen - Maia Morgenstern - Roma Downey - Keisha Castle-Hughes

 

Looking back since the year 2001, we reflect on actresses and their films or series, who have had the grace to play our Blessed Virgin Mother Mary.  Who is your favorite? 

Let's first reflect on Vanessa Benavente whose exquisite tender portrayal of the Blessed Virgin Mother Mary in the groundbreaking series, "The Chosen," has captivated the hearts of millions around the world. Over the first five seasons, many scenes featuring Vanessa Benavente and Jonathan Roumie have become iconic with repeat viewings sought by many for inspiration. Can an Emmy nomination be forthcoming? 

Now, let's go back to 2004 with the film, "The Passion of Christ," which introduced us to the relatively unknown, Maia Morgenstern who played an unforgettable grief-stricken, tormented Blessed Virgin Mother Mary.  Her empathic anguish broke the hearts of millions.

Now, we turn to the film, "Son of God," (2014) starring Roma Downey as the Blessed Virgin Mother Mary and Diogo Morgado as Jesus Christ.

Our Q & A Continues With Peter Arnold, Christian Angelic Mystical Suspense Thriller Author, "Armor of Light: A Trilogy Story" (eBook series)

Heaven's Doorway Press - Q & A with author, Peter Arnold:

Question: Peter, is it true you met Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus in the global hit series, "The Chosen"? Tell us about your connection.

"It was a supreme moment of grace.  My home parish where I was Confirmed is at Saint Monica Catholic Community Church in Santa Monica, California.  In 2018, prior to 'The Chosen' crowd-funded series launch, Jonathan Roumie and Maria Vargo acted and directed a Passion play inside the church called, 'The Last Days.'  As I was seated in the pew, Jonathan in an extraordinary performance was mystically channeling Jesus via the Holy Spirit and walking up the nave of the church.  He was unknown then; however, it was all I could do to remain seated as I wanted to run up and hug 'Jesus.' Here's a few pics of the vintage paper program below:

At the end of the performance, Jonathan and Maria (while still in costume), greeted everyone as we left the east side entrance doors of the church.  I humbly looked up at Jonathan as 'Jesus', wearing a crown of thorns and special effects blood, barely able to say thank you as I was emotionally over-whelmed by the realistic performance.  Then, as I said, 'thank you,' he whispered, 'I saw you.'  This was such a divine consolation, that my soul felt the immediate meaning akin to Nathaniel (also known as Bartholomew) being seen standing under a fig tree by Jesus! Little did I know, Jonathan Roumie was in the room months before when I gave my witness testimony at the men's 'Cornerstone' annual retreat.  Eventually, after the first season of 'The Chosen' streamed, I saw Jonathan again and said, 'This is the role you were born to play.' He was so gracious and thrilled to be blessed with the role."

Question: What an unforgettable moment!  Since that mystical encounter, have you heard anything more from Jonathan?  

"We all have our unique ministries, our calling.  As 'The Chosen' became a worldwide phenomenon, I saw him at the parish.  Truly devout and inspiring to us all.  Here are some pics below that was a dream come true - now beloved by two Popes!"
